Often individuals come to therapy because they have a desire for change in their lives. Those changes vary greatly among individuals. Therapy can inspire change through understanding of our thoughts, emotions, and behavior and how past experiences impact our current functioning in our day-to-day living. People may seek therapy for help with issues that are hard to face alone. Therapy supports individuals in developing healthy coping strategies, increasing awareness of self, increasing healthy relationships and overall increase in quality and sense of fulfillment in life.
Couples come to therapy due to unhappiness in their relationship that often results in difficulty communicating, increase in conflict, and becoming disengaged from one another due to their differences. In therapy, couples can develop skills of shared problem solving, develop effective ways of communicating their needs and emotions, and gain insight into their habits and behaviors and the impact on the relationship. The results can lead to a relationship that is supportive, fulfilling and with a deeper loving commitment. My role is to support both individuals in this process of change.
The goal of family therapy is to help family members improve communication, solve family problems, understand and handle special family situations (such as, death, serious physical or mental illness, changes in family dynamics, child and adolescent issues), and create a better functioning home environment.
