I believe we all have the capacity to change and grow. Therapy offers a safe, supportive space to develop awareness and understanding of life experiences and provides guidance in facing the changes and challenges that can become overwhelming in our lives. It’s during these times that we can feel alone, misunderstood, and overwhelmed. I would be happy to partner with you to discover new strategies for healthy coping, challenge patterns of negative beliefs and behaviors, gain a greater sense of who you are, increase healthy relationships, discover your strengths, and provide support and resources that will lead to personal growth and fulfillment in your life.
I use a strength based, person oriented, relational approach to therapy combined with compassion, authenticity, collaboration, and honesty, in a trusting and non-judgmental environment. I believe this begins with respecting a certain type of courage it takes to make that first step toward change.
It’s important that you have an enriching therapy experience in which you feel seen, heard and accepted for who you are – exactly where you are. I want to empower you to take an active role in your change process and together we can create lasting change that lessens the difficult aspects of life experiences, increasing a stronger sense of self and fulfillment in life.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have more than 25 years of experience working with individuals, families, and couples throughout my professional career. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University and a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with concentration in community mental health. My career has primarily been in community mental health, and has also included private practice, inpatient psychiatric hospital social work, providing mental health services in school settings, integrated assessments of children and families involved in the child welfare system, and providing clinical supervision and consultation to a team of therapists. I often work with individuals who have experienced PTSD and other types of trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and life transitions. In my practice, I utilize the following therapy approaches, based on the need of the client: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma Informed, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic.
